Lawyer G. Russell Wright
Russell Wright has been engaged in the practice of
criminal defense since 1980. He has a Master's Degree from the University
of Georgia and is a graduate of the Woodrow Wilson School of Law.
His trial experience has ranged from simple misdemeanors to death
penalty cases. He is currently one of only six criminal defense
attorneys in Georgia who are board certified by the National Board
of Trial Advocacy as a specialist in criminal law. He has held this
certificate for over fifteen years. He is also a sustaining member
of the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and has served
as the area Vice President of this organization.
Mr. Wright has devoted the majority of his practice for the past
five years to the defense of drinking drivers. He believes that
the proper defense of a DUI case requires an attorney who studies
and understands the "science of DUI" - i.e. those principles
of chemistry and biology which form the basis (or lack thereof)
for breath and blood testing as well as other areas unique to the
laws pertaining to drinking and driving. He has received this training
which, in many cases, is equal to or surpasses that of the arresting
officer in your case. He holds an instructor's certificate in standardized
field sobriety testing from the National Highway Transportation
and Safety Administration. He is also a Department of Transportation
certified operator and maintenance technician for the Intoxylizer
5000 - the only approved breath testing device admissible in court
in Georgia - and is one of the few lawyers in Georgia who owns one
of these machines.
Mr. Wright is a four-time attendee and graduate of the National
College of DUI Defense held at Harvard Law School. He is also a
member of the Defense of Drinking Drivers (DODD) group, an "invitation
only" association which he believes comprises the best DUI
defense attorneys in the State. He has taught other attorneys through
the Institute of Continuing Legal Education and has also conducted
in-service programs for members of the law enforcement community.
Mr. Wright also has long experience in defending individuals charged
with drug crimes which are the majority of his non-DUI cases.
