Extreme DUI/DWI Stories

We're all familiar with the damage that can be done by drivers under the influence of alcohol and other substances. While some offenders come away unscathed, many become involved in grisly accidents, shocking crashes and other unfortunate situations. Drivers involved in a driving under the influence related incident should be sure to contact a local DUI attorney at the soonest available opportunity. Below are some particularly outrageous stories of intoxicated drivers.

On Nov. 3, 2011, an intoxicated substitute bus driver in Killbuck, Ohio attempted to drive a bus full of middle school students home from school. Some of the students noticed that the man was driving erratically, and quickly communicated the situation to their parents, who in turn placed calls to the bus garage resulting in the man's apprehension. He is being charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and child endangering, both first-degree misdemeanors. If convicted, he faces up to one year in jail and a fine upwards of $2000.

On Nov. 22, 2011, a woman in Ocala, Florida, was charged with driving under the influence. The situation was familiar: a 2009 Nissan Versa was spotted weaving in and out of its lane, stopping abruptly at red lights and speeding off as soon as the light changed. The car was followed and eventually stopped by a patrolling police officer, who determined that the woman had been drinking. Less commonplace is the woman's history with DWI--this is the 10th time the woman has been charged with driving under the influence, and if convicted will be her 9th conviction.

A 38-year-old man was apprehended on Oct. 31, 2011 after crashing his pick-up truck into a Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise while driving drunk in Hollister, CA. The man has a storied history of alcohol related incidents that spans the past five years, including other DWI related and public intoxication convictions.

A 22-year-old man from Los Lunas, New Mexico rolled his car while driving with his wife, son and daughter; none of the occupants survived the wreck. The man had recently been released from jail and he and his wife had been drinking. The vehicle's brakes were faulty and the couple had been using the emergency brake to stop. Deputies called to the scene noted the heavy smell of alcohol emanating from the couple.

As these stories demonstrate, driving under the influence can and does result in very dangerous, often tragic circumstances. Anyone involved in a DWI related incident would be well advised to contact a local DUI attorney as soon as possible.
