BAT Certificate (I-8000)
No training of criminal defense lawyers to operate the Intoxilyzer 8000 can be obtained in the State of Arizona, its law enforcement agencies, or from the manufacturer of the breath testing machine, CMI, Inc. Elaborate security procedures are in place and designed to prevent defense lawyers from obtaining such training from the company or local law enforcement agencies.
It is, therefore, both extremely difficult and expensive, but not impossible, for a driving under the influence defense lawyer to receive the training and obtain an operator's certificate for the new Intoxilyzer I-8000.
In 2005, Mr. Siirtola became one of the first driving under influence defense lawyers in the State of Arizona to successfully complete an operator course taught by a factory-trained Intoxilyzer 8000 instructor, pass field and written proficiency examinations as a qualified operator for the Intoxilyzer I-8000, and receive an operators certificate meeting requirements of U.S. Department of Transportation, 49 CFR Part 40.
Mr. Siirtola is, therefore, very familiar with technical operation and technology of the Intoxilyzer 8000, its shortcomings and deficiencies of the technology.
